Instruments

You can change how instruments appear and how they are played in the settings tab, under Instruments.

Always show instruments

By default, an instrument hides itself when it hasn't played a note in a while. When this setting is on, instruments stay on stage for the whole song, even when they aren't playing.

Smart mallets

When this setting is on, mallet instruments (the xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, and glockenspiel) are played with two mallets that travel between the bars, like a real player. When it is off, each bar has its own mallet.

Smart drum sticks

When this setting is on, the drum kit is played with two sticks that travel around it, like a real drummer. When it is off, each drum and cymbal has its own stick.

Fretted and string instruments

The app works out how fretted instruments, such as the guitar, bass guitar, and banjo, would play each song. It picks a tuning and capo position for the part, then chooses fingerings for its chords and solos. The instrument shows the capo on its fret, and its tuning keys turn when it is retuned.

String instruments, such as the violin and cello, choose their bow strokes from the music, favoring down-bows on strong beats.

These behaviors are automatic and have no settings.
